So then back on leads for a walk along past the boatyards and into the start of the country park, where I had a sit down and contemplated how I would get the dogs clean..............

Just as I'd hoped, the recent rains had filled 'Ellie's Pond', so with little encouragement the dogs were soon splashing around

They were so tired out from our 5 hour walk that they then slept right through 'til their dinner time!

Miles found a home about a week after he went up on Petfinders and is doing well. A young couple with a jack russell/beagle mix and a yorkie poo (oh brother) took him and the jack and he took to each other right away. Some of the dogs come with names (my current one came with hers), some are named by the shelter...the rest I name. The feral ones rarely are named as the shelter calls me pretty quickly about them and they usually haven't even had paperwork generated. Summer did, but she still had never been given a name since she was not adoptable and wasn't on their website.

Ended my week off work with a lovely trip to a dog-friendly beach. Miles of muddy shingle and lots of seagulls for them to chase.

The temperature has stayed in the 20s, limiting the dogs running time as they are total fools and won't stay in the shade! So we've been having lead-walks, shade-hopping to try to keep cool. The cherry trees in the park are ripening so the rats are back in force. the combination of lively dogs and rats in the bushes got me pancaked around a tree to stop from being pulled into the bushes after them!
But yesterday the tide times worked out for a visit to the river and Flash has got the idea of swimming now and retrieving from water by copying the others

Bertie attempted a stealth attack on some seagulls by swimming around them.. Unsurprisingly they stayed out of his reach! After a while Rosie decided to give up swimming and just mug the boys when they reached the shore

So the dogs got a good 4 hours exercise without getting hot, I cooled my feet by paddling too and they totally crashed out when we got home!

That's the way to do it! It's been hot here too. I have a kiddy wading pool for the dogs...only the foster uses it. Meanwhile.....I sweat!

It was lucky the tide time worked out just right yesterday for the dogs to swim without getting muddy. I managed most of the walk to the river in the shade too by swapping our route around to zig-zag along different streets. As the sun had moved when we came back I got too hot really getting home but the dogs dried out and stayed nice and cool. I always take water out for them in the Summer but none of them will drink much until we get home

I walk a client's dog daily and I have had to take him to the local park to walk as the pavement and streets are too warm for his feet. I can walk on the grass there.

Another river visit.....
