Anery Pewter

herbager

Snake Bitten
Ok, so I bred a striped blood het for anery with a pewter with unknown hets.
The breeder of the striped blood yes anery (NO het charcoal)...but I got 50% anery bloods and 50% bloods from the breeding. While I realize that this could occur with 2 snakes het for anery it is more likely that one of the parents is homozygous for anery. Since the striped blood is phenotypically
striped blood this would mean that there is at least a possibility that the pewter is also anery. I looked on Ians Vivarium but I can't really see a definitive difference between Pewters and Anery Pewter (and the photos of the Anery Pewters have some pretty high variation)...anyone know of specific differences between the two? Thanks.

She looks pretty close to being a Granite. I'd breed her to a Charcoal next time around to confirm what she really is.

Thanks...I'll see if I can find a pewter male for her...if I get 100% bloodred I'll know she's a granite.

Well not quite, since I had Anerythrism running all through my Blood Red lines, it's entirely possibly that this animal may be homo BOTH Anery and Charcoal. When the babies are all hatching out and you can have ANYTHING at all in the clutches, often you just have to make a best guess on what some are based on what the others in the clutch look like. Unfortunately, there is really no other way to do it. It's not like they are hatched out with tags on their tails to positively ID them.... :D

As you mentioned yourself, there is a LOT of variation in both Pewters and Granites, so when you have the possibility of BOTH being in a clutch, trying to ID the babies will be a challenge, to say the least...
