right i will say hello properly this time

i am very new to having a corn snake i got my snake in july when he was a week old and i absulutly adore him, his name is lewis in fact i am so hooked on them that i am getting a ghost stripe female next saturday about the same age as lewis and i cant wait!!! i am going to call her lotty!!

i am hoping to mate them in a couple of years time but i have a lot to learn before i even consider that, hence why i have joined this forum.

my lewis is getting ready to move onto fluffs and i would appreciate any help or advice from more experienced owners on looking after him correctly i hope i can get the help i am looking for here i dont mean to drone on but im sure u all had many questions when u were new to looking after so thanks in advance guys i will put some pics on soon to show them off!!!

Hi, and welcome.
Glad to hear your enjoying the little one. They are addictive! Remember that they should be kept on their own though.
If you want to post how your looking after your little guy (your set-up etc) then there are a load of people here happy to help (including me) to make sure your looking after him the best you can.
 
Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the pending purchase. Corn snakes are like pringles potato chips, you can't have just one. Ask anything, I am sure we will be more than willing to help.

thanks for the warm welcome guys this is a great site to answer all your questions firstly lewis and lotty will be in seperate vivs the setup i have at the moment for lewis is a glass tank about 2 and half foot long one and a half foot tall and about one and a half foot deep not sure what gallon size this is? i have a heat mat under one end and at the mo a normal lamp on top but i have a clamp lamp coming tomorrow are these any good? he is on aspen bedding and there is a hide at each end one at the warm side one at the cool and obviously a water bowl and some decor in there too, he seems happy enough he always sheds very well however i have noticed he is shedding less often now he is getting bigger i believe this is correct am i right? i will say though i do sometimes have a bit of trouble keeping the place up to temp sometimes hence why iam buying a proper heat lamp so hopefully it will be fine, i was wondering is it because his tank is glass that it does not hold heat as well as a wooden viv?

as for lotty who i get on saturday i have bought her from 888reptiles i didnt really want to buy online but i was told buy a few people they are good and speaking to them on the phone they seem very proffesional i was supposed to get her yesterday but they did not want to move her as it was a bit cold so they have her best intersts at heart , her setup is pretty much the same but in a slightly smaller tank i have also purchased a thermostat for each of them to control the heat lamps.

i will be putting pics on soon to show all u guys, i hope i am doing things correctly if not please feel free to point me in the right direction as i said i am new and am very keen to learn, also i am thinking of moving lewis off pinkies next week i am giong to follow the munson plan as that is what everyone is advising me to do just need to get some decent scales to weigh him i will let u all know how that gos

Hey, personally I use wooden vivs as glass doesn't keep the heat in...but I'm not sure if other keepers in England manage fine with glass. It gets too cold up here in my opinion. Heatmats are fine, as long as they're regulated with thermostats (which you said you've recently purchases). Make sure you measure the temps from these with digital thermometers with probes to measure accurately (and also to set your thermostats properly). I do use bulbs in my wooden vivs during the day, but for the ones I have in tubs they just have heatmats.

Your right about the shedding, as he he gets older he will shed less often. Babies are generally every month. My adults shed about 3/4 times a year (I don't really count). If you are struggling to keep the heat in the glass tanks you can insulate them with polystyrene round the sides (I've heard that this helps but have never done it myself).

Hope your new little one arrives safe. Make sure to avoid handling for about a week until she settles in and quarantine her also.

thanks lynda i shall make sure i let her settle in for a week before i handle her as for the thermometer i bought 2 digital ones today with probes one for lewis and one for my new arrival they are so much more accurate, and it looks like i was worrying over nothing the new thermometers say the temp is high enough in the glass tank so that is a relief!!!

i have a couple of pics of lewis in my profile there is an album feel free to have a look but the pics are a couple of months old now i shall post some new ones when i get my new corn on saturday.

i shall let u know how i get on ty once again for the advice speak soon.

so he is a normal i thought so there are so many morphs its unbelievable and overwhelming to a newbie, i just had a look at ur four snakes they are beatuiful i especially love peter the little ghost he looks awesome i cant wait to get lotty on saturday i am so excited!!!!!

Thanks, they grow pretty quick though! He won't be my little ghost for that long...saying that, I can't wait for him to reach adulthood to see how his colours are going to develop.
