Another Shedding doohickie

Filovirus

But you can call me Bob..
Shed #5 just complete... as Kellogg gets older (about a year now) she seems to spend more time in the stages of shedding.. from blue to new the time seems to have increased.

Last time she went blue and cleared up i waited and waited for the shed, but nothing for ages... so decided on giving here a quick bath... she went in and came out almost right away, didn't seem to like it too much... but then i sat down to watch a movie or something and by the time i looked back at her she was peeled and new...

So anyway she cleared up that blue thing about a week ago so i tried the bath thing again... only this time didn't watch a whole movie... and BINGO... i get up to look at her and she's half evacuated... so i leg it upstairs find my camera... come running down and the batteries dont work... so i run up again and get my old camera.... and snap away a few shots... (of which i imagine all will be out of focus...)

anyway... it was amaing... at the point where the skin has folded back she does this little wiggle movement and crawls forward... it was soooo damn cool all muscular and ripply... anyway.. no question... but i was kinda happy... she now measures in at a cool 39 inches...

You know,

I imagine the increased time between clearing up the blue and her actual shed has less to do with her increase in age and more to do with the decrease in humidity during the winter. It gets less humid in the winter's cooler temps, so your snake may not have the levels she needs for proper shedding. That may well be why she has shed the last two times immediately after a bath.

I would recommend your adding a humidity box to her enclosure when she's in the blue next time. You can make one by simply filling a margarine tub (or whatever else you have that is of appropriate size) with damp paper towels and cutting a hole in the lid. Even if the snake does not go in, the resulting evaporation will increase the humidity levels in your viv.

Hope this helps -- :D

shedding

ofcourse she does take a longer time shedding...she gets bigger...needs more time to let go of het old skin...its naturally...
i have had hatchlings shed in 4 days...and older ones that take up to 3 weeks...all depending on the snake...go with the flow...let it take their own times...
