antibiotics question

When any of you have had to treat an RI with antibiotics have you done a certain number of days for the dose e.g. 5 or 7 or 10 or 14, or have you continued until symptoms stopped?

(I am not asking advice here in place of going to a vet - I am in full contact with a herp vet on the cases I am currently working on, but I am interested in what other vets have advised other people to do. If you prefer not to post medical details publically, I would be just as happy to receive a pm from you)

Thanks in advance,

I was given little shots for my snake's RI, and there was only 2 weeks worth. However, the symptoms didn't go away, so I just raised the heat in his tank a bit until they went away.

Most antibiotics are given for 7 -14 days, depending upon a variety of factors. As Flygning mentioned, raising the temp helps alot with RI. If the snake hasn't shown any improvement after 7 days, you may be dealing with a resistant germ and perhaps a switch of antibiotic may be required. If symptoms have improved, but not completely gone away after 7 days, then further treatment is required. You should continue antibiotics for several days after the symptoms have completely gone. The antibiotic used may also dictate for how long it can safely be used. Your herp vet's recommendations should be followed.
