Any problems with this?

Okay, I was given a 28gal (I think) tall tank eons ago and I've been using it for my guy, but I would really like to get him more room to roam since he's not a climber.

Someone suggested laying the tank on it's side and just making sure that the lid is on tight. The tank measure approx. 30 inches if laid on its side which would give him a lot more room. Anyone see any potential problems with doing this?

I heard of someone else doing this but I forget what the outcome was.
Sounds ok....but wouldn't the substrate fall out when you take the lid off :shrugs: That could be a hassle.

you could cut some cardboard to fit against the ledge/lip. :shrugs: That should keep the substrate from coming out. JUST DON'T USE TAPE!!

No tape, I promise :) I had just planned on keeping a broom and dustpan handy, but I like the idea of a lip... I'll have to think about that...hmmmmm

ooooh noooooooooooooooooo, he wouldn't like that at all. He's only recently discovered the joys of burrowing with the change to Aspen and he would not take kindly to going to newspaper or paper towels.

Hey, he's an only child currently and is indulged :)

Maybe a dumb question, but couldn't you get one of those screen lids that opens lengthwise and open it from the top half when you'd like to reach in? It would save the trouble of creating a lip and still keep the aspen in.

The lid on my tank is in 3 sections (with the two ends folding up towards the middle) so it wouldn't work with this type.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the link :) I would still need to put some sort of lip across the bottom of the screen, but it would be not necessarily have to be permanent.
