Yeah, they do that. Most of them will climb on ledges so small you think how the heck can they do that.
In case you have not taken measures yet + I don't know how your cage is, make sure to secure the lid strongly, otherwise snake will push it sometime and might get free.
 
Yes, and the best option is to cut that lip out with a utility knife. I lost a young corn never to be found about 10yrs ago so i cut that lip out of every tank used for housing snakes. Never lost another one. All of my snakes are housed in rack systems now.
 
Pretty much standard behavior for babies housed in that type of viv. They love it up there. I've never lost one. Eventually they get to fat to fit in there.
