Does anyone know have any pictures of what it should look like when a snake properly sheds? What exactly does everything have to look like? How big or small are the eye covers?
O well im at school so i dont have any pics but the eye cover should be the same size as the snakes eyes. and as long as the eye covers are intact and the shed is in one peice you are in good shape also check the tail and see if it is all their.
I've only been so lucky to witness my snakes shed a handful of times, the rest of the time they do it while I'm somewhere else! But here's a link to my Ninja's progression thread, where I've caught him shedding!
The shed should look like a stretched out blank copy of your snake, scale for scale. Like Xace says, make sure it is all there, check your snake's tail-tip to see if the shed is totally gone.
If your snake is nice she'll roll it into a ball, rest her head on it, and wait for you to take it away. See how she's showing her eyes and her tail-tip for inspection? Good girl.
As for inspecting sheds, what I do is closely examine the tail and eyes on a shed. I will feel the eye scales (They almost feel like contact lenses, so to speak) to make sure they're on the shed, then look at the tail. If all is well, then I leave it alone. However, if I ever have a bad shed (I haven't yet), I will refer to Nanci's guide on what to do.
