Anyone use a hovabator 1632

i just wondered if anyone else has one off these, as i bought one a while ago, but never tested it till now, and am having problems setting the correct temps. i dont need it just yet for breeding but thought i ought to fimiliarise myself with it, as i did recently get caught out, sadly those eggs were no good, and i learnt a lesson and seperated those snakes. i have set it up as per instructions and put water in the tray, i have the screw turned to the lowest point possible before it turns itself off, but the temps are still over 100f, any one know where i'm going wrong.

I used one for the first time last year and had excellent results.

Where idid you position the temp probe when you checked your temps?

Before my snakes laid I set up a container just as I would as if I had eggs in there. I put my temp probe in the incubating medium inside the container, closed the lid, and turned the temp control until the unit light just came on. I let the temp in the container stabilize for a couple hours. After that I kept bumping the temp up slowly until I reached the temp I want to incubate the eggs at and let the unit run until my snakes laid. My incubating temp was 84 degrees. I kept a temp probe inside one of the egg containers the whole time the eggs were incubating to monitor the temps. I was able to incubate 4 clutches in my hovabator with no problems.

BTW don't worry about putting water in the tray. The moisture in the incubating medium is what keeps your eggs hydrated. Just keep an eye on that and you'll be fine.

i left the unit on over night, and the temp was well over 100, so i am graduling decreasing the temp, and the light goes off, but comes on occassionally is this normal

I actually plugged my hovabator into a thermostat with a probe which I put inside an egg container inside of it. It regulated very well that way and I didnt have to be concerned with the inconsistenceis of the rotating disk heating controls.

You won't be able to accurately set your hovabator without putting the temp probe or themometer inside the incubating container. That's where you want to set the temperature. If you try to set your temp just by setting the probe on the wire mesh the temp in your incubating containers will be much lower than the ambient temp inside the hovabator.

I haven't set mine up for this years clutches yet. Otherwise I'd post you a pic of my setup.

so i can just use a single habistat thermostat and set that to the desired temp. that sounds to easy

Yep. Set it up with a container filled with moist verm. Then stabilize your temp inside the container and you're gtg.
