Hi guys and gals,

i have a question perhaps someone might be able to help with!! On tuesday i shall be getting my new female Blizzard (really excited ) but i read somewhere that for some reason Blizzards usually have a fiesty temperament. i just wondered if anyone has come across this or had any problems regarding them????

I don't believe that temperament is related to the morph. Corn snakes are corn snakes, color doesn't affect them, just like people. I have a snow corn that likes to try to bite every time I try to pick her up (getting better though), but I didn't read anywhere that snows like the taste of human flesh. ;)

I concur. Snakes are just like any other animal or human and they have different personalities. it is not color specific.

Some morphs have a reputation for being fiesty. I have seen this concerning sunkisseds and silver queens, but have never heard of Blizzards being associated with that generalization. As said before, snakes are snakes, I've had my female blizzard for almost 3 years now and she was calm from the get go, of course she loves the Heineken which keeps her mellow :grin01:

I don't think it's the Blizzard so much as it is the Charcoal. It's not on the same scale as the rumored sunkissed's, but I know that generally I have noticed Charcoals to bit a bit more 'spastic' so to speak. Bloodred's can be a bit spastic as well. Do not confuse spastic with aggressive.

Spastic (stolen without remorse from Drizzt80) would be the word I would use to describe our blizzard, he is a at moments jumpy, he has even bitten my son once. But at other times he is a sweet heart, they are all individuals and you will just have to wait and see.

Peace Paul

P.S. Does any one else talk to their snakes even though they can not hear you?

You know...I kept meaning to look into that...I was sure that my cute little guys could somehow sense that I was talking to them, but as I didn't see anything regarding ears/holes, I figured that they couldn't hear me...but I must impart some nice vibes because they've always been cute with me...:) I talk to all of my critters, including some of my plants...:)

my blizzard is tame as a... hum!? he is calm as a... come to think about it.. I´ll think I have to go en check that he`s realy alive!!

to be honest my blizzard is the calmest of my hole collection, he´s such a charm aswell.. i guess if i would feed him live the mouse would just jump in to lestats mouth :grin01: ....

but snakys have diffrent pesonaletys as said before!

good luck with your girly! cornsnakys are the best!! :wavey:

Like mentioned earlier, I think morphs may have a role in the snake's temperamemt. I see some pretty fiesty bloodreds...! I have a butter motly that is pure evil, but he is calming down the more I handle him.

As far as my blizzard is concerned, he is extremely confident and is really not shy at all. He has the most calm disposition I have ever seen in any of the corns I have ever handled. From the looks of things I may be in the minority here and just lucked out....

Studies have shown that snakes can hear despite not having external ears. He probably does know when you are talking even though he lacks the ability to respond.

My blizzard is really fiesty too but only when getting him out and for the 1st 3 or 4 minutes then he seems to calm right down and is fine until i go to put him back then he starts again haha :shrugs:

I don't know about the colour having anything to do with it...

My Okeetee phase bit his previous owner and the guy at the petshop very often...but he has never even tried to bite me once...isn't it possible that different snakes respond to the way they are handled in a different way? Not that you are handling your snake incorrectly but maybe that particular snake would respond better to a slightly different approach?

I talk to my snakes all the time! They stick their tongues out at me in a most impudent fashion sometimes! Naughty brats! :crazy02: Love them to bits though and can't WAIT to get more!

I handle all of my snakes in the same manner, during handling some are more wiggly, some seem more pissed off, some seem to enjoy a new adventure.

Just like people... snakes have different personalities.

My '05 Blizzard...Charon is as calm as a puppy... he's sweet, sweet, sweet. I pick him up and he just looks at me.

I talk to my snakes all of the time...
