Are my breeders too old?

When I bought my 1.1 pair about 3 weeks ago, I didn't have a scale...but I know for sure that the female was slightly smaller than the male...

Well I got a digital scale and my male is weighing in at 42 grams.
Which would put my estimate for my female before pregnancy at about 35 grams.
On RodentPro.com they would sell a mice their size as an X-Large Adults and consider them "retired breeders" at this size. My female is pregnant right now, so I know they are still able to breed, but should I start looking for a younger pair?

I probably will regardless, because I imagine at those sizes, they are getting close to "old" for a mouse...and I sure don't want to lose this female during the birthing process...they are both "cuter" fancy mice...not all white...and plan on keeping them as pets for my step-son to be.

But anyways, all questions aside, I am very happy that she finally got pregant, I thought it would take forever but she just weighed in at a WHOPPING 57 GRAMS!!!
Hope to get a decent sized litter from her :)

Thanks for any advice!

Here they are...the male is Black-White-Black and we call him Double-Stuff...like the Oreos :)
The female is the other one (duh) and my g/f named her Shade...don't ask me, I don't know what she was thinking :) Pic is when we got them, don't have a preggo pic of her..

But they are quite cute and if she is getting too "old" for it, then I will just keep them as pets and go get a 1.1 pair of white mice.

Damn it...it would help if I put the pic in the post huh?! (Says I after one too many Rolling Rocks)

They are too cute. Are you gonna be able to feed their cute little babies to a snake?
I saved a cute black and white rat from my boyfriends ball python and she is now my pet.

I am lucky...I don't find pinkies all that cute...and both of my snakes are only on pinkies, so I won't have to let the babies get too big and cute :)

If you plan on breeding mice for any length of time, I would consider perhaps a 1:3 or larger ratio. IMHO, I would start of with younger mice to set up your breeding colony. Good Luck

Yeah hopper and fuzzie stage I like, I started with 4 mice but due to them having some lovely different coloured mice I now over 50, I have stopped all breeding at the moment and giving the mums a break and letting all the remaining ones get to adult size then I will sort them all out and dwindle them back down.

But yes I agree easy to get rid of them at pinky size its when they start getting the fur and you see all the different colours it gets difficult.
