in Arizona are there any good herping areas around Mesa?(my dad and I are going for a golf vacation and I'm looking forward to be in real herping country :grin01: )

i've had fabulous herping in tucson near the desert museum on trails at dusk (or in the place where i was staying where i had to catch and relocate the rattlesnake under the clothes dryer) but don't know a lot about the phoenix metro area. i do know they geckos have hatched, and the adults are out and about, as the cats have brought them in already. so, you should find something if someone tells you where to look! the challenge will be getting far enough outside of the metro area to find something good!

yeah, I've been looking at the resort map and stuff, and it looks like its somewhat near a desert :shrugs: . hopefully i can get out there and look around for some good herpin!

Great place to go is up towards the Superstition Mountains just east of Apache Junction. I go every year and find some great little critters. Its also a great place to see other desert wildlife.

Since all of Arizona is pretty much a desert, and suited almost perfecty for reptiles, I'm sure just about anywhere you look will give you a nice find. That is just where I frequent. Now is about the best time to do it too, so I'd get out as soon as ya can!!!

My brother and I like to make a weekend of it. Normally take the artillery out and pop off a few rounds at the range, and then head out further for some herping. If you're interested in coming along, let me know. We could make a day of it before the weather gets to hot.

we would definatley be interested in herping with you guys, but were coming in 3 weeks from sunday, is that two late or is that okay?

this wont help much but the closest thing to herping I do here in arizona in north of phoenix(for the locals......... out by lake plesent) and me and my dad go riding and pretty much every time in the summer we come along some good looking rattle snakes. again, pretty much every time
