Artemis, Progression

Asbit

So Many Morphs...
Artemis is my Snow Motley female, when I purchased her June 25, 2009 she was 2,5 yrs old, 249 gms, 3 ft and flabby. Since her acquisition she has been put on a toning and muscle building regime as well I have put some weight on her as I plan on using her as a breeder. She is now 3.5 + and as of today weighs 414 gms of very strong muscle! She is out often for exercise and I often let her hang out around my neck, when she first came if she started to slip I had to catch her, now if she starts to slip, she literally constricts so tights it starts to choke me!

This was her the day I got her.

This shows she was somewhat flabby or at the very least lacked good muscle tone.

One form of exercise she enjoys, during the cold Canadian winter months(and on rainy days). She loves to weave in and out the windows and up and down the floors of this doll house toy.

The next two show her in the bath tub. I had heard that swimming was good for snake exercise so long as it did not stress them out as it can stress some corns out. So one day I decided to put some 85 degree water in the tub and see if she seemed upset when put in it( tried to get right back out). Much to my surprise she would not even wait for me to get enough water in the tub for her size before she fought her way out of my hands and down into the tub and started swimming around! She just started sniffing as soon as I started filling and then she was trying to get closer and closer to the water and finally I gave her the option and in she went. I know when she has had enough because she stops swimming and tries desperately to get out, so I always supervise her and out she comes at that point. They both show her lovely pink spots real well and if you look close you can see muscle ridges.

Thanks for checking my biggest baby out!!

You really take snake care seriously! Swimming lessons, exercise regimens... You are going to have the healthiest corn snakes around. Her coloring is very nice. I started off thinking I didn't like white corn snakes. Now I am realizing that they are rarely really white, they have these very subtle tones. I like her pink.

She looks great Asbit!

I can't wait til Bubblegum is big enough to really let out and get around a bit (with supervision). I think our corns are going to look similar. (still don't know Bubblegum's sex but if he is male...in a few years we'll let 'em meet lol.

That would be great!! Maybe have some really nice looking little babies and we would both find out if there were any hidden hets in our snakes. Because if we got anything other than snows then at least one of the snakes has some other genes other than Amel and Anery.

Oohh....I like that plan...Bubblegum has checkers on his belly ...does make him anything? I am so out of the loop with genetics right now. I'm getting better but soooo much to learn.

It means he is a plain snow, if he had a plain belly like my girl he would be a Snow Motley so babies from our two(provided Bubblegum is a he) would be Snow het Motley.

This would mean all the babies(F1) would be Snows and would carry the Motley gene but you would not see it. Breed one of those babies(F1) with another snake that is het Motley or two babies together and then approx 75% of the new babies(F2) will be 66% possible het Motley and the others will have no Motley at all.

Now take one of the original babies(F1) and breed to a snake that is Motley and you will get approx 50% het Motley babies(F2) and 50% Motley babies(F2).

Clear as mud??? This has helped me to learn the genetics a bit better
http://www.corncalc.com/
it is a calculator for figuring out cornsnake genetics. Play with it enter in different genes and see what comes out it is fun and interesting.

I've got that site in my favs. I try it out every once in while just to see what I'd get with different morphs.
