Aspen Pellets?

I was just browsing around and noticed that petsmart sells green aspen pellets and was wondering if anyone has tried them, and if so, how are they in comparison to aspen shavings?

Aspen Supreme by Green Pet Products?

I use them for my mice colonies, and they work great for keeping the mousey smell from urine down to next to nothing. They're highly absorbant and will swell when moisture is applied.

I've just started using it with my ferret here recently, and all I can say its a miracle product for ferrets. Its the new ingredient in his corner potty container. It sucks up his urine (which ferrets produce a lot of) and locks in the odor. It also is heavy enough that when he's playing in the bottom of his cage, he doesn't scatter the bedding everywhere...which aspen shavings are usually everywhere.

I don't know about using them for snakes. I don't see any problems with using them with snakes, as they're pretty dust free and easy to spot clean up. I'd say its at least worth a try. The only thing I'd be concerned about is the fact that they're so moisture eliminating, that it might deplete the humidity within the viv so much so that you'd need to have a humid hide to avoid possible shedding problems.

The only thing that makes me cringe is the cost of it. Its around $8 for a 10lb bag at our local Petsmart. I just ordered 4 20lb bags from Petco.com for $11 each (with free shipping, dur).

Let us know how it goes.

Good, just what I wanted to know.

Reptile expo is this weekend and with the addition of at least 3 new critters, more likely 4, the cost of mice per week is going to get a bit ridiculous.

I've got two bp's, 2 juvie corns, and then 3-4 hatchlings...that's $8 a week for mice----that's $32 a month--which is ridiculous.

I had mice previously on pine, but after hearing a few people flipping out about it I was browsing around and it was the aspen pellets or carefresh. I figured the pellets would do a better job absorbing the nasty mice smell.

I didnt really have any plans on using it with the corns, it seems that aspen shavings are cheaper, so I'll just stick with that.

Thanks though!
