I just got my first corn yesterdat and hes still a baby and i worry about him and i just have him set up in his bin and well i check in on him yesterday i let him be but today i lifted his hide to see how he was doing and he rattled his tail at me kidda and worried me is that normal attitude for a new baby corn ? or is it just that he has a bad attitude or something :S im really unsure does anybody know ?

100% normal. Leave it alone as much as you can for the first week so it can get used to the new surroundings.

That is very normal. He is scared of you.

As Eli said, leave him alone for a few days for him to settle in. Then as you handle him, he should relax more around you.

It kind of sounds like a good sign. If it were unresponsive it may be something to worry about. Since it is alert and aware of its surroundings (if a bit vigilant) it is showing healthy behavior.

I left my newest hatchling alone for a full week without handling her (aside from moving her into a feeding container, but I didn't pick her up).

It's a bit early to make a call on it's attitude but some are definitely feistier then others. Don't worry, attitudes are overcome by regular handling.
I'm working with one right now that just the other day went an entire 30 seconds of being handled without spazing out on me. One step closer, lol.

oh ok :D but when i need to feed him i need to put him in another bin dont i need to pcik him up to feed him in another how would it work to feed him if he still is not in the mood to be touched
?

I have two ideas:

1. Find a pair of work gloves. The snake may not mind as much when you try to pick it up if your scent is not too strong.

2. Try to find a hide that the snake will go inside of with a lid you can open. When you go to feed it, pick up the whole hide and put it inside of the feeding container or tip it and let her slide out.

I found an army/navy surplus store that sells plastic soap boxes for camping. I soldered a hole in one end and put in some paper towel so it seems a little bit smaller on the inside. I can pick the whole thing up and open the lid when I want to take her out (though I generally won't handle her before meals but gently tumble her into the deli cup she feeds in).

Third option, wait to feed the snake till it settles down some more, missing a meal by a few days won't hurt it.

Agreed. As I said in my other post:

I left my newest hatchling alone for a full week without handling her

Whichever way you do go about feeding, it is best to give your corn plenty of time to acclimate. After it has been left alone for a bit you could try one of those methods.

Yeah I would not want it to come across as an "either/or" situation either. I wholeheartedly agree that at this point you can afford to give the hatchling a few days alone before you try to feed it.

If the hatchling has had plenty of time to settle and it still responds aggressively, do my options seem appropriate? I have never handled a "hateling" (I have only seen one and I got a kick out of the tail-rattling), so I was just recommending things that I have used with my girls that have been a bit on the squirrelly side.

I have a girl that does not liked to be touched after she has eaten. I allow her to crawl out of the feeding container into her viv by slowly turning the feeding container upside down.

I also agree with Corny Noob. You do not have to be in a hurry to feed your snake, if you want to give it some extra time to settle in.

Coty- as for your suggestions, I go with number 2 with I think they're not going to be very receptive to holding. I don't like to use gloves because I think 1, it's over kill especially for a hatchling, and 2 I want them to get used to me not the glove.

No matter what you do some snakes seem to be cage agressive untill you get them out, my youngest one was like that so I would do similar to what Coty suggested, I would scoop him out gently with one of his hides and then let the snake crawl onto my hand. Now I can reach in whenever and get him out.

oh ok well i kidda checked in on him today and kidda let him smell my hand and such and he climbed it a bit but he was like going around fast and lundging and stuff so i didnt take my hand out of the bin i just left in in there and let him crawl around my hand

Feels like velcro trying to eat you.

:roflmao: Industrial strengh Velcro or just the regular stuff :sidestep: :roflmao:

That's good! You guys are bonding now...

'Another note/question for the glove thing, what about hand sanitizer? Probably safer than an old pair of work gloves...

Jazz is rather placid with me, so I just reach in there and grab her. Purell comes after the handling.
