My Toothless is being unusually pissy this week....is it the season for pissy snakes or just him being moody?

Could be coming up to a shed - they get very nervous as they can't see properly and would be vulnerable to predators in the wild.

Depends on temps on the floor of the tank as well. High temps can make them a bit antsy if they can't get to a cool enough zone when they need to.

He's not being pissy or moody - he's spooked or scared in some way.

I've had him for a yr. His temps are good, he shed last month. Nothing has changed in the household since last week when he was being his normal self and wanted to be out. This week he's being pissy, if I touch him he coils up and gets sassy when normally if I touch him he'll climb up my arm and get comfy. He's being weird. Thought maybe the change in weather or spring fever or something...

Yes, he's a 6yr old male candycane. He belonged to a gentleman who had him hid whole life and was a breeder but in Oct 2yrs ago he got out and was out for 8mo and thought to be dead, so when he showed up in the neighbors yard the man had no more room so I got him :)

A few of my guys are unusually grouchy lately. My king snake is usually a sweetheart, lately he's been striking at anything near the glass of his tank, when you pour water into his bowl he strikes at it... It's pretty weird. I've got a corn too that refuses to eat but won't stop striking the side of his bin if you're near it and he's awake -.-

I think I figured out his mood swing....he went into the blue 3days ago and retreated to his hide. Normally he doesnt have 'tude' before he goes blue but for some reason this time he did :-/

Sometimes it really is the obvious answer which applies!

They do love to throw us a curve ball now and again. I find that even with my adults, they tend to shed more often April-September than over the winter months, even though for many of them the feeding regime is the same throughout the year.

Hehe, my little champagne stripe is bi-polar like me. Sometimes she's fantastic, sometimes she's full of piss and vinegar. :) Keeps me on my toes.

Yea he's such a good boy that if he's giving me tude I know something is wrong. This sucks for him though it was supposed to be food day but due to shed it'll prolly total out to 20 days no mouse. Poor guy.

Bitsy...last year he shed every2-3wks. My assumption is it was cause he had been in the wild and encountered who knows what but had some real rough spots and he just kept shedding till he was smooth as a baby's butt. Then he went 6mo before shedding and now I noticed a rough spot on him so I'd assume that's why hes doing it so soon. Poor guy.

My newest baby butter "Pandora" always gets a bit of the 'tude when I feed her. I've had other baby snakes rattle their tails when I feed but she goes full bore and HISSES at me! She's just a little yearling and I've never heard such a LOUD hiss! I hope she will get over it with age.

baby corns

My baby corns just hatched 14 out of 16 eggs. Two of them 1 black 1 albino are very aggressive i dont know if it is just because they are hatchlings or should I just handle them more please reply.

Sometimes I think snakes go through attitude changes like adolescences. Maybe it's a change in hormones? Boredom? Or perhaps they're just developing their own personality...who knows? Luckily, I've never had any 'tudes with any of my scalebabies. Carma, it may be just a hatchling stage, or this may very well be their personality. Keep trying to handle them regularly. If you get sick of being tagged, buy some thick gloves! Usually the more you handle, the more they realize you're not a threat, and simmer down in time. However, if you leave them alone they'll just contintue their snotty behavior, and it will only get worse. Good luck!
