Baby black rat not eating?

Hello, my baby black rat snake has suddenly stopped eating. He is 4 months old and healthy, and his last meal was December 26th--he's almost been 2 weeks without eating. I'm not worried about that being bad for his health or anything, as it's only 2 weeks, but I'm wondering why? Do black rats usually brumate over the winter? Is it just a species thing? It has gotten a lot colder here recently, but he has a heating pad and his temps are fine (80-85). He will NOT eat out of his cage, but he's always eaten his fuzzy outside of his hide.

I've tried to feed him twice since he stopped, and he refused both. Both mice were f/t and nice and warm. I even brained one of them (lol first braining). Nanci had a post on boiled pinks, so I tried that, and he still wouldn't take it. Any thoughts? How long should it be until I worry?

I am no expert on this but one of my rat snakes did not eat for about 6weeks and he finally took a live linkup and he is doing fine now, but I heard they can go months without eating and as long as their under bellies stay firm and not soft, he should be fine. But hopefully soon some else will post more about your concern.

Not that I can tell. He hasn't shed since he's got here, but people with black rats said that they do shed a lot less often than corns. I was thinking that though, but he looks completely fine.

Yep, active as ever. He's constantly roaming around his viv, but he sleeps too--typical baby behavior. He's very curious. He's a little spitfire as well, and while he doesn't usually strike, he loves to tail-rattle! His behavior has not changed. Ari is still on paper towel bedding; I had that in his cage when I first got him to quarantine, but when I switched over to aspen, he decided to burrow and ignore the mouse. When I switched back, he ate. I guess I can try pinkies, split pinkies, heads, rat pinkies? I'll give him 5 days until I try something again.

My baby black rat has become picky. She won't eat unless I put her and her food in a small deli cup. I then place the deli cup in a pitch black place overnight and check on them in the morning..the food is always gone. :)

Okay thanks, I'll try that! I hate having to wait for a few days to try all of these new methods! My corn absolutely loves it though--baby mice snacks!
