Bad mum

Any tips with a new mum, I have various breeding girls and all going well but I have a new mum who has had 9 babies they are about 10 days old now but not looking the healthiest I have seen, they dont seem very well groomed in fact the fur on a couple looks really messy like they need a good wash.

Dont know whether this is because she is a new mum or because she is just rubbish, has anyone had any similar probs I am in two minds whether to keep her or not.

lol...forget I said anything..I didn't even know where I was when I first read this...sorry..lol
:headbang:

yes we are talking mice fur, hair whatever you want to call it, they just look in bad condtion like they havent had a good wash, my other mice I always see grooming but dont see this one, I suppose its a bonus she didnt eat them but she just doesnt seem to look after them.

I have added pups to other moms but usually within the first couple days. On a good note though the pups are still alive at ten days old. Ive had a couple situations where first time ones dont even get that far with the pups. good luck and I hope all goes well. btw second litter she may do better.

dont think I will trust her with a second litter her mum is as bad, the pups are now 2 weeks old and are half the size of my other mices litters that are about 10 days and it has to be said none look healthy.

The dad is very good and looks after them so think I will start him with some new ladies and see how it goes.

So you leave the male in with the females always?? How many females to males do you have together.

yes I never take the males out I have once in the past and then had problems when it came to putting him back. It depends on the size of my tubs as to how many males and females are in together but on average 1:3 I tend to have. I need all different sized mice so generally to ease of the mums I tend to vary how many I take away from them each time.

Never feed unhealthy mice to your snakes, you don't know whats wrong with her so don't feed them off to any reptile you might cause some bad issues.

I suppose snakes always get the healthiest perfect mice in the wild right?
hell ive fed off dying mice and rats and NEVER come across a problem.. its life
