Bad Shed..

Well! I fell asleep to the rustlings of Travis burrowing and he had cleared from being blue and so I knew he was due to shed any day, I woke up and found several peices under the substrate, I had been misting once or twice a day keeping humidity at 45-50% with the water mostly on the warm side, but still not a perfect shed..I got him out quickly to check everything had come off, and it had, So all in all its not the worst.

The skin was more easy to break than his first (which I still have, and is still intact) And I couldn't even pull a bit out of the substrat without it breaking, so I think this is why it came off in peices.
Also I think that because he was burrowing might be one of the reason why it wasn't complete?

Anyways, Not too worried, But it common to just have a one-off shed in peices?

I dont know if its common, i would think that it happens, but anyhow what i do when my snake it in blue is give them a humid hide to go into and i havent had a bad shed yet (knock on wood) but maybe you should try giving them a humid hide while in blue and about ready to shed, just a suggestion :) Good luck

shed

well last night my new cream started to shed but all his water was gone it was sucked dry. and since he is in a contaner in side a 10 gallon tank. because i have two snake and i like them seperat. he got out because i left it semi open he also sucked up the other water bowl. when he was half done i put some more warm water in thier and he diped himself in their and the shed cam of so easy and gooey.

Quite a few of mine burrow during the shedding process and their sheds still come out whole. I don't think it's too uncommon to have an occasional weird shed, although I can't say I know a cause for it.

I've had several that have had a single shed come off in pieces, including one who had major problems with lots of retained skin, and all have gone on to have completely perfect sheds since that time with no alteration to humidity.

It's probably just hard for us to imagine all the little factors that might go into how well a shed comes off of them.

Cheers for the replies :)

Yeah, you're right about how there might be little things that can determine a good shed or not.

Fact of the matter is everything came off, end of the tail, eye-caps, everything. And I guess thats whats really important :)

As long as it's all off, i suppose it's not really a massive problem.
A humid hide's a really good idea, I've found they work really well.
Our Boa doesn't shed properly at all, and we have to literally peel the skin off his tail, and hold a damp cloth around him so he can push/pull himself through.
I guess every snake is different, and as long as it's all coming off, it's not that bad!
