Bamboo

Hi all

I have just had my massive piece of Bamboo delivered that i have ordered to put in my new setup. It's 1 metre long and say 8 cm wide i am going to run it diagonally from the bottom left corner to the top right corner of the tank so my little guy has something to climb on if he so desires :)

My question is do i need to clean this first and if so will jut water do or do i need a mild bleach solution?

Many thanks

Jamie

there is a 99% chance that you don't need to clean it. But it's not worth the 1% risk.
Give it a little bleach to make sure there are no bugs or parasites hiding on it. Another way to sanatise wood products is to stick them in a oven at about 150°c for half an hour, but a one meter stick might be a little hard.

Thanks ansterr i will put it in a bath with a very mild bleach solution tonight and then wash it down thoroughly and then leave it to dry and air all day tomorrow.

If i do this do you think it will be ok to go in my new built tank tomorrow night or should i leave it a few days to air properly?

I'd let it air dry for at least two days, in sunshine if possible, so that there is no water/moisture inside. But other than that, it should be good to go into the tank. :D post pics when you have your viv set up.

I live in england so i doubt i will be able to air it in the sunshine :grin01:

But i will air it for 2 days indoors do you think that will be ok?

And yeah i will post pics as soon as my viv is set up.

I want to build it tonight and put him in it tomorrow night so i will take pics of it tomorrow night with just his caves and stuff in and then in a couple of days i will add the bamboo.

Thanks for the advice :)
