Hi Everyone
you have all posted some great posts lately, i just love this website.

my male corn doesn't seem to pay much attention to his water bowl very often, that is until he eats.
everytime i feed him he spends 2 days having a long soak, is this a male thing? i have never caught my female having a soak. ( he does come out to poop though, thank god)
does anyone elses corn do this?

Isobel

I don't think that its a sex thing.... Different snakes have different personalities. I have females asdf and males that like to hang out in their water and some that just don't seem like they go near the water at all.

i dont think i have ever seen corns soak in their dish, mine is definatley one of those that rarely goes near the dish. cool though

Sorry Dan, couldn't resist. Good to see that you're a "touch typist", though. :grin01:

I have a male normal who takes baths daily, none of my other snakes have ever done this but then again maybe they do it at night when Im sleeping. Its really fun to watch, thank goodness he doesnt let go in the dish that would be icky...

One of my snows is a regular bather. both of my amel girls were bathers as youngsters but seem to have grown out of it. I caught my aztec a little while ago COMPLETELY submerged in her waterbowl with just the tip of her cute little nose sticking out and a little tongue flickering away...very cute!

Most of my snakes just drink from the water bowl. A few of my ratsnakes will soak to cool down. My ball python blows bubbles under water.

water

That is really cool when they soak !and swim around my corn tango has even
drank out of the water bowl while i was holding him now thats cool !!! :p

I never see any of mine soak. In fact, I make it a point to keep them moist during shedding. However, the water shouldn't be very cold because they are kept in a reptile room at an average of 80 degrees. Still, I suspect the water feels cold to them, but I won't try to heat the water above 80 for fear of burning them.

My snake only goes to his water bowl for a drink. if more than his head touches the water he gets really scared!

Ive only seen my snake drink once and that was last night, I know he uses the water because he makes a mess and gets the substrate all in the water. thats how I know hes been there.

can i ask y izzit no advisable to let them drink chlorinated water ???
wondering if my area water is safe for consumtion.

chlorine

Well I dont have the proper answer for why they shouldnt drink chlorinated water, but imagine if you were given a bowl bigger then you that was chlorinated. It would be like a swimming pool. Swimming pool water taste yucky. Anyhow I dont think small amounts would hurt, as in general tap water. But thats my own opinion, too much chlorine is bad for you and therefore wouldnt be suggested for your snake. If its strongly chlorinated like some city water is, try picking up some distilled water, may be beneficial. Well thats my thought, someone more experienced could probley give you a better more technical answer.

They could be doing it after you leave the room. I've only seen mine soak once, but I've found "presents" in the water on many mornings! :grin01:
