Bedding Bulldozer

My corn has been slowly shifting his bedding to the center of his tank...The entire area around this has no bedding left, I watched him for awhile and saw him useing his head as a kind of shovel for moving dirt(*he did this along with use of his body*)...what could he be doing??? he has made kind of hill of dirt...

Mine does that inadvertently as he pushes against cage furniture trying to reach the top of the tank.

... he just pushes his head against the glass of his tank.... it is almost as he is trying to do it on purpose....i don't know....thats why i posted

Some of mine

do that too. I don't know why, but it's mostly my males that move the bedding around.

here's a thought

I've been seeing some of my snakes doing exactly that, but I think I know why.

Is there, or has there ever been some kind of opening in your tank which they could exit trough without you taking them out?
perhapse when you were cleaning your tank and left it open for a view seconds?

It seems that they have a very good memory of these things. Even if they just stick out half their head into a place where they usualy can't, they'll keep on trying for days and days to get out at that exact spot, moving dirt, objects and just being very active all over the tank. It might take over week for them to settle down.

eventually they'll forget. (until it happens again)

well, that's my theory. it might be far from the truth..., then again

good luck with it dude, if you have a theory of your own, let me know.

My male cornsnake moves his a lot as he burrows. The substrate isn't very deep and all he really does is shift it around the viv. My female corn snake does not do this. It must be a male thing!;)
