Bedding change

For those of you that keep their snakes in a viv with aspen (or similar) bedding, how often do you do a complete bedding change? Diglett is a 13 gram baby in a 20gal tank with 2-3 inches of aspen. I spot clean any poop that I find but I have a feeling he likes to poop in his burrows (either that or he has only pooped 4x in the past month/6 feeds). Also in addition to his 4 hides, he also has 2 paper towel tubes that he is a HUGE fan of, how often should I change those out?

I change my snake's (16 year old) aspen bedding once a month. He doesn't have any cardboard in his tank, so I don't have any comment on that. I also spot clean as needed and change the water 1-2 times/week.
