Best kind of stat to use?

I don't have it and mine work just fine. It just means that it has a "ground" so that you cannot be shocked when unplugging it if there is a short I believe....?

I have about a 5 degree change in the room (65-70). I just set the dimmer when the room was at 70 and i set the UTH to 86.5 degrees so that was as hot as it is going to get. The mat changes from about 83-87 and i've never adjusted it since then. Eventually i'll switch to a T-stat but for now, this works great and i might as well get my money out of it! It's the best rheostat that i've used and it was worth every penny. Maybe for Christmas i'll switch him over to a T-stat but if you want to save some money and only have about a +or- 5 degree change then a Rheostat is fine and i would recommend the Leviton Dimmer that was mentioned earlier, then it'll give you time to save up for a nice T-stat, I was thinking about getting the one that Fatman mentioned and i could give a review on it... It looks good and has a digital display and it's cheap! so i don't see anything wrong with it

I have the same dimmer :) It works just like he explains it. Mine goes from 83 to 87 also with no heat on in my room. When my heat is turned on at night (it is winter here) the temp on the high end only goes up to 91 and no higher. The cool side reaches 75 or lower all day and night. I was also thinking the samething about Christmas and getting the one Fatman mentioned. :D Ditto Haarstad's whole post ;)

I have a reptitemp 500R that I've been using for about 2 1/2 years. I have an UTH and a ceramic heater plugged into it. I haven't had a single problem with it, and the temp stays steady. My condo is usually about 65 in the winter and gets up to 85 or 90 in the summer. I usually don't use the air unless it gets about that hot. I never tough the t-stat since I got it set.
