What is the uth to use? I was told t-rex,but i am not happy with the way it heats. I have a thermostat, but the thing just turns off and there is no heat.so I have my mats just plugged in and there is still not very much heat. The "hot" side is around 78 most of the time on the floor.Should I change brands/

Well first off how many gallons is your tank, and is the UTH you have the correct size for the tank you have? Second of all it may not be the brand at all, what do you have your tank setup on? If it's vented than the heat cannot reflect to heat the tank properly. If this is the case you can try putting a tile under the UTH, or a piece of glass, or reflector tape which looks like tin foil. These are some items you can use to try and get your temp numbers up. I don't think you need to change brands, but someone else might know more than me on that subject. I personally use a Reptitherm Under Tank Heater (10-20 gallons) 6" by 8". Hope this helps

The tank is a 20 long and yes I have the correct zize. Its not vented and is taped to the botton of the tank.Even if you touch it with your hand it is only slightly warm.I have 3 tanks and all are the same.I use aspen bedding and if you touch the glass in the tank there is hardly in warmth.

How many watts are your heat pads? I have a few exo terra substrate heaters, and the rainforest model has a significantly lower wattage than the desert model. If i plug my rainforest heater in uncontrolled it only reaches around 95 depending on room temp, opposed to my desert heater which will reach upwards of 130. If you cannot achieve the desired temperature with the equipment you have and are thinking of upgrading, be sure to find out the wattage on the mat, as it will directly affect the amount of heat it produces. :D cheers

T-rex Cobra heat mat,10-20 gal 7 watts.Says they are supposed to maintain 100 degree temps. Just not hot enough.Readings on all 3 tanks are high 70's.

What type of thermometer are you using to measure the temps?

It should not feel anything more than slightly warm to your hand really. If it feels strongly warm or hot it is much too hot.
