Betty the brat (Miami)

Lolo

Surrounded by snakes
I realized I haven't posted many pics of Betty, my little Miami phase girl... I actually call her Betty the "female dog," but brat seemed more forum-friendly. ;) Despite her serious attitude (tail rattling is her favorite activity), she is quite beautiful to look at - and at least she's a great eater! Caught her in a rare calm-ish mood earlier, so I took the opportunity to snap a few photos.

Fyi: I adopted this girl from a friend, who rescued her off craigslist... so I don't know much about her history, and to be honest I don't even know 100% that she's a girl! But I'm not about to try and find out, since I can only imagine what her reaction would be to popping/probing. :uhoh: Anyway, here's my Miami brat who's named after Betty White (Get it? She's a gray-haired girl from Miami, LOL).

Thank you both! Ironically, I'm watching "Golden Girls" at this very moment... hehe. :D

When my friend said he got a Miami off craigslist, I was like yeah sure - I bet it's just a weird looking normal. Then I saw her, and said WOW! She was a must-have, even though her temperament kinda stinks.

Btw, can you tell her gender by the tail? I know you can sometimes do that with corns, but I'm not really sure how... I can try to get better shots, if that would help.

Looking at her I would say she is a he there is no sudden taper to the tail, but that is not 100% accurate. Only way to know for sure on a snake that size is probing.

I LOVE her ground color! Very pretty snakie :).

Betty says thank you! ;) I didn't even know what "ground color" meant until recently, but I'm happy to hear she has a nice one... thinking about breeding her eventually, although it would help to know her gender first. :D

That would be funny if she turned out to be a he... I'd still call him Betty though, since it's just the snake's name by this point. Doesn't really matter, since we're in San Francisco - "my favorite city, where the girls are tough and the boys are pretty." :dancer:

Maybe I'll take her to my vet or the vivarium, and have her officially probed... but I probably won't bother until/unless I'm ready to breed her. I'd love to see the vet handling this little spitfire, LOL.

We'd need to see a shot of the underside showing the entire tail (from vent to tip) in order to make a guess. It's all about how gradually the tail tapers past the vent and how long it is, with males having thicker, longer tails in most cases. Very nice looking snake.

The vet would be handling the reproductive end- you'd be the one with the biting end!!

Well, she does most of her protesting with the tail (whipping & rattling)... so that's alright with me! :D:p

Thanks! I'll see if I can get that photo, but it might be a challenge with this one... :uhoh:
