Birch Bark

Nagah11979

corn junkie
I've been using a halved paper towel roll as a shelter for my corn. It worked really well, but every time i mist the cage it warps more and more and i think that is causing my corn to sleep on the cold side of his cage now (the tube is curling up on the warm side). To help me out, my mom brought in a curved piece of birch bark to use as a hide but she noticed when you run your finger down the inside, a fine white powder comes off on your fingers. Will this irritate the skin of the snake? Also, is there anything else i should do before putting something in the cage that was lying on the ground outside? Should i wash it somehow?

Thanks for any replies

Hi,
Instead of misting the whole cage you could use an old plastic (margarine) container with damp moss inside. This way the snake can choose if it need more moisture or not. It would save getting everything wet.
Useing things from outside you need to wash it really well. You can use a very mild bleach and water solution and rinse it VERY well so you cant smell any bleach. Then rinse it again. And then you can place it in the oven at about 150- 200 ( never leave this unattended) for about 20 minutes just to make sure that any and all the little critters are off or dead.
I hope that this helps,
Jimmy C.
