Black dot on tip of nose...? He escaped today too!

Sushi

Corn noob
Hello. For a little bit now there has been a black dot on the tip of my corn Leo's nose. First couple times I saw it I didn't think anything of it and just thought it was dirt. But it's still there and I looked closer. It sort of looks like it's embedded in, or coming out of the little crack there. Any ideas what it could be?

Also, unrelated, Leo escaped today. I was worried the cat hurt him but it actually turned out the cat helped, he didn't hurt him but he kept him cornered so he couldn't escape further. I never knew what sound a snake could make before! And my boyfriend learned what it felt like to be bit by one. He went in to grab him without thinking and Leo bit him, but only because he didn't see who it was. Once he saw who it was we could pick him up fine. He actually didn't even want to go back in the cage still. Haha. Anyways, there are some small light scratches from the cage mesh when he squeezed out. Is there anything I can do with these, or no just let them be?

Thanks!

Hmm, these events may actually be related. The black spot on his nose may be where he rubbed himself raw (and the a scab formed) because he's been trying to get out...

And what do you mean by "scratches on the cage mesh"? Pictures of his nose and the problem with the cage would be beneficial in helping us to determine what advice to give. Glad you found him, a lot of us aren't so lucky when out little snakies disappear ~_~.

Hmm, it might be from rubbing his nose on the mesh. I meant that he got some small cuts from the mesh lid I think, when he wiggled out. I'll put up some pics later, going to work at the moment.

Would a scab on a snake be black?

Thanks for the reply I'll get the pics tomorrow.

Oh, they do that when the cage is too small? Makes sense. He is in a 15G right now, and I thought that would do for a little bit longer. I read 20G is fine for adult snakes, is that true or should it be bigger? Thanks.

It depends on how big the snake is over all. A 20 G is fine for an adult to live in. Some people that house them just as pets will go to a 30G or 40G. I've never had any of my snakes rub its nose raw. Could it possibly be the temps are not right?

Your mesh might be a little sharp as well. He could of rubbed his nose raw when he found a weak point where he could get out. I think maybe if the snake knows he cannot get out he won't rub his nose raw.
