Black light

The Red bulbs at the hardware stors might give off heat but it is a minimal ammount, compared to the heat lamp. But I don't think that you should worry about a red bulb putting off to much heat. So go ahead and get one, the snake should be fine with it, and tell us how it works out' :wavey:

Not sure what you're talking about, but my red light gives off some SERIOUS heat.

BTW I have a 650nm (red) laser and just had a grand old time watching my Cal King chase the dot around her tub. I think this conclusively answers the question of whether or not they can see red light.

My $8 pet store red heat bulb gives off a crapload of heat. The $1 red "party bulb" (same wattage) does not. It puts out heat, but nothing like the other one.

ditto. the bulbs you buy as a "red heat lamp" do give off heat. i use one for my Egyptian Spiny Mice for that specific purpose. The plain old red light bulbs do not radiate heat any more than a white incandecent would.

when i get my snake i am going to use a UTH but if i used a red light only at night i wouldnt want the temps to get to high

Hey I'm real sorry about that one'

Hey guys I’m really sorry about that one. I though she meant like a red Christmas light, not a heat lamp light, sorry if I caused confusion. I guess I need to re-read the post before I hit submit.

I turn my heat light off at night and noticed during the winter, the viv got down into the mid to low 60's so I brought a $4.00, 25 watt red bulb at Home Depot for nightime. It's not infared, so I don't know how her eyes react; I'll have to ask her. :grin01: I do know it keeps the warm side in the mid to high 70's, so yes, they do put out some heat. I've seen her lay under it next to her hide when going to bed, and see her in the same spot when I wake up.

Night Glow

I know alot of people that use red lights and find them sufficient, but the best one i have come across recently is called a night glow bulb, it is only a 25W bulb and gives off very little heat. the light given off is very dim and is intended to simulate moon light. i have not tried it with my corns yet but it works great for lizards, they go asleep the miniute the light comes on and sleep better than with red lights. You shoul be able to get one in any good pet store, they are cylinrical bulbs about 3-4 inches long and the glass is a purple colour. I'm not sure of the exact make but if your interested let me know and ill find out.
Good luck

yea iv seen those at Petsmart. I was wondering how well it would work for corns. If you could please try it on the corns and tell us the results. If it doesnt bother them then id probably get one.

I tend to leave my corns in the dark at night(more natural), but i might give it ago sometime, if I do I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.
