that's why you are burning the lights out...a thermostat that turns on and off according to temp will run through the on/off life cycle of the bulb.

You really should look into a proportional thermostat to control your heating gadgets. This will just adjust the current flow to your items to either turn up the heat or turn it down. And, it will save you in bulb bills. I have a thread on here somewhere about how these work and the benifits...The only problem is that they are a lot more expensve than what you are using now. I will try and post the link to the thread so that you can read it.

You guys are driving me crazy...

and I thought snake genetics was hard. Day glo night glow moon gloe infra outfra weeee :crazy02:

Seriously though. I'm in a really hot apartment, I've been known to run the air conditioner in the winter because even on hot days the heat comes up full blast. We shut down the radiator in the living room all together, but left the one in the bedroom, where the snakes live, functional. I just got a thermometer and noticed that sometimes the room gets up to 80, even 82 and stays there for hours. Is this bad for the snakes? Being too warm I mean. My DH suggested ice packs for making a cool side, I thought he was kidding at first, but he's actually serious. If it's always let's say 72-82 during the day and maybe 70-78 at night. Do I have to do anything? I actually bought a small uth, but I haven't taken it out of the package yet, I thought I'd just hang on to it in case of some emergency.

you sound like you are ok. Just don't let the temp in the viv get much higher than 85. The cool side should be slightly lower temp, and this will be aided by the water dish.

wow...

okay - so my using a night-glo (dark blue) bulb 24/7 could explain why one of my snakes has shedding problems? The other two always have perfect sheds though, and all have the night-glo lights...the temps are always in a good range, as well as the humidity, so maybe he's just more sensitive...

Thanks everyone for your responses - i love this site!
