Blue vision?

Delightedly

Snarky Sneaky Snakey
I've been curious... does going in to blue affect a snakes vision? Val is so mellow that I can't tell.

Also, should I be handling when he's preparing to shed?

She will just have a difficult time seeing is all.

Snakes like most reptiles have 4 kinds of cones in their eyes where humans only have three. Therefor they can see a much broader spectrum of light(into the infrared) I don't know for sure how the blue layer of old skin over the eye effects them though. Some snakes become more nippy and some don't change at all.

That's fascinating. I really appreciate the details. :)

One last Q: should I be more hands off right now even if Val doesn't seem to care?

just depends on the snake really. When i first had my corn and he was shedding he used to strike all the time, now he doesn't mind being stroked and handled when shedding.

I generally give my snakes a little space when in blue. Just a personal preferance you could say, but i figure they have enough stress as it is.

I have read that snakes vision is greatly reduced when in blue to the point that they hardly see at all. That is why they get so nippy because they cant really see whats approaching them and until they get a smell of it theyll be likely to get in a fuss.
