I will just bring CAV with me. We can all have Foamy Adult Beverages and Smores...

yes, i have seen a drunk bee...have you ever seen a drunk Dog?

Oh, that's right! You live in the same state! BRING ON THE CAV! :D And yes, I have. Though this is Vancouver... I'm not sure which is more common, a drunk dog, or a stoned one.

My ex's (who passed away - the ex, not the lizard) iguana used to smoke joints. He LOOOOOOOOVED it. Strangest/funniest thing I've ever seen.

Alright, we're getting WAY off topic here. I still have very damp wood.

Is it normal for the wood to get somewhat crumbly?? And squishy, but I assume that's because it's still wet inside...

Please dont say it is going to fall to bits after all that soaking and drying..... I guess you could use it as substraite..... but are you sure it is not cedar wood (just thought I with open that can of worms! LOL)

Well, Drift Wood is called drift wood because it is found floating in water. Water will help along the decaying process of wood. You might have soaked this too much, and then the drying has accelerated what the soaking has started. How much of the wood is crumbling? Yes, the squishiness is because it is still wet inside.

I've been reassured by a friend of mine who does contract work in construction, so Yep... I'm pretty sure it's not cedar. Sure does smell good though.

It's not so crumbly that it's going to fall apart, but if I hit it against a hard surface hard enough it might break into smaller pieces. The "half tubular" hide though is AWESOME (and the least crumbly of the bunch). :D The smaller pieces I'm going to stack into a hide.

Paul: It should be fine once it's dried. When he's full grown though, as he slithers over it it might crumble a little (the outer layers), but I think it's okay.

ok. you will want to be careful that you don't get pieces that are small enough for Max to ingest. This can cause problems.

Yeah, there's one piece that I don't think I'm going to use for just that reason. But thanks for making me all nervous. lol

Your welcome. Glad that I could help.

6 pieces cooked, 3 in the garbage, 1 questionable.

The two I put in the tank though, he LOVES them. I think. I had to hold him in one hand while I was moving things around in the tank, but when I put him down, he slithered around for a good hour flicking his tongue and exploring... at least I think he was exploring. He kept rubbing his head and upper body against the wood the way cats do against corners of tables, so it could just be that he's loosening the skin (blue phase is over - do they rub their whole bodies like that before they shed? - one hour he's got bright blue eyes, and the next hour -litterally- he's back to looking normal and rubbing all over!!), but still... In the hide, back out, over, under, even climbed the vine (been in there a month and I've never seen him climb it)... I also put the ceramic tile down over the UTH...

So I'm guessing the wood makes him happier than plastic containers with holes cut in them, though is still likes the halfway cut cardboard paper towel rolls (I hid them under the flatter pieces of wood so you can't see them)... cheap bastard. lol

But it looks SOOOO much better... so yep. I'm a happy mama. :D

(pics later... gotta run out)

good to hear that max is out and running around. And good to hear that you didn't loose your house while cooking the wood.

yes, they will start with their noses, and get the skin a little loose on the head, and then roll it down their bodies while rubbing against everything. let us know how the shed comes out.

Talk to you later.

Well no shed yet, but I did post one insanely cute pic in the photo forum (my new avatar).

I do have one more shedding question though (sorry, last one, I promise). He's out of his blue stage right now (and no longer rubbing up against the wood), but he's comatose when I pick him up. I can pick him up in a curled position (not unusual), but I can literally flip him on his back and the only thing he does is turn his head around (the right way), then continues "sleeping".

Pics here

And while I brought up pics... does he not look like the Grinch in this one? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/Spiriit/Animals/Max/159_5961_cr.jpg

Okay, after about 10 minutes though he "wakes up" and becomes his usual active self. Is that normal?

Well, shedding is a very big thing for snakes. And, if this is the first one in his new home, may be a little stressful for him. The comatose state may be nothing to worry about as long as he seems to "wake up" and move around soon. Keep an eye on Max. I love the new avatar. and, as soon as I can get the pictures from my digital cam to my computer and uploaded, I will give you a link to see them.

Well he's always very calm/trusting when I take him out, but not THAT calm. He usually only stays like that (curled up) for a minute or two, but certainly not 10. And if I push his head he doesn't move.

He actually does this from time to time when I'm handling him. He'll be really active then just stop and stay COMPLETELY still for 20 or 30 seconds before moving again. It's like he goes in a trance.

Maybe he's sad. :( Poor thing... what a crappy thing to have to live through. But he's gonna be all purdy when he's done! :D

I'm not overly concerned. Yet. :)

(LOL! I just saw my new avatar... love it.)

When Mayzee stays completely still for 20 to 30 seconds there is usually an explosion of sticky delights from somewhere near the tail end. LOL

Sticky delights. lol Yep. Max does the same thing, but rarely does it mean he's about to poop. I caught on to that early on. The thing craps every damn day, so I've gotten tricky on his butt and decided to dunk his rear in water to stimulate the "delight" before handling him. Works like a charm. :D

Back on topic, still no shed! How long does this process TAKE already?? *excited/impatient*
