My corn snakes back bones are definitely obvious. She's a series of lumps, but it's just at the top of her, her sides are quite fat and she gets bigger along her body until she shortens nearing her tail like all snakes. I feed her about every 3-4 days 2 fuzzies at a time. She's doesn't look sickly skinny at all, it's just her back bones are very obvious compared when I see pictures of snakes that aren't near as lumpy as mine. Could this be of age, I haven't had her but a year and got her when she was a baby, or am I doing something wrong? Maybe she just has huge bones?

How old is she and pictures would be a huge plus. susang

A little over a year old. She was alot bonier as a baby when I got her shes filled out alot more. Now most her mid sections bones lump out a little bit. Maybe she's just filling out?

Bump - I can't really provide a picture but I did a little bit more information and concluded it could be a birth defect or she was born with 'kinks'?

Could anyone confirm or provide a picture of a snake like this?

I found this picture on a google search... it's not mine, but you can clearly see a kink in the snake's spine towards the right side of the picture. From what I've been able to tell from reading, these normally don't adversely affect the snake too much, but the snake probably shouldn't be bred. Best of luck!

Not all kinks look the same. Some are just small bumps that run down a snake's spine. That sounds an awful lot like what you're describing.

I think you should be feeding your snake bigger food items. As yearlings my snakes get small mice every 5-7 days. Larger prey items definitely make the difference. You could also try rat pups or weanlings to give your snake some extra meat.
You may need to take him to a vet if he still doesn't gain weight, he could have an intestinal parasite.

I wish i had a solution for you but i am fairly new to snakes myself.
It does seem strange to me that a snake of a year old is still eating fuzzys and every 3 to 4 days. Every 4 to 5 days is a young hatchlings feeding schedule to me. Do you feed her/him approperate size prey? I was told the prey item could be up to 1 and 1/2 the diameter of the snakes biggest part of its body. Im just wondering if it is getting enough food to keep it going but not enough to let it grow and flurish??
I wish you and your snake the best of luck and hope someone has some answers to you soon....

BBirdP:
how much does your snake weigh?? I have 2 that ar right at about a year old...the female weighs 110grams and the male weighs 100 grams..both are eating hoppers/or medium mice every 4 days.

Can you see ribs? are there any kinks in the snake? Or are they like little "pimple like" things along the spine of the snake?

If they are pimple like things, then I would say its somewhat normal. This was on one of my snakes, it went away after a year or so

I do agree you need to bump up the size of mouse from two fuzzies to hopper and then bigger after a while. You can't really compare by weight of someone elses my yearlings eat a small feeder once a week and weigh 203 and 253 grams. I do not power feed, I use the Munson Plan as a guide, when I'm not sure. A couple of my hatchlings are eating fuzzies, one every 5 days. susang
