Bottle Traps

I've been reading about these bottle traps used for escapees, and I was wondering - How many people have actually had success using this method? And with what size snakes?

Luckily I haven't had any escapees yet. But the concept makes sense: the snake goes in hungry and normal size, eats the food, and cannot fit back out because of the lump in its belly. That's if it can even find the opening again because they tend to crawl along the sides of the bottle and not rear up to go through the center again.

The size of the snake would be determined by the size of the bottle opening. I think mostly it's used on hatchlings and smaller snakes that would get hungrier sooner and may not be noticed crawling about.

I've never used one, but I don't think it is dependent on the snake being too thick to fit through after eating. If that were the case it wouldn't work at all for young snakes.

The ones I have seen described were 2 liter bottles with the top few inches cut off and turned around and insterted into the hole, so the snake could get in but then wouldn;t be able to find the hole back out, which would be suspended somewhat into the middle of the bottle.

I think part of the concept is that with a brain the size of a BB they can't find the way out again...but the bulge aspect might help in larger snakes.
