? bout water

It is ok..use the purifier drops that you can get from the reptile shop!! Just a suggestion!

I keep the water on the cool side of the tank!

Based on what I've read I think tap water is fine unless you live in a place with contaminated tap water. And I read also that it's better to put the water on the cool side because humidity would be too high if it were on the hot side. Correct me if I'm wrong!

If you are worried about the tap water (contamination or whatever) you can buy gallons of water at WalMart for a quarter, and for only a few snakes it will last a long time. I live in an area where the average human doesn't drink the water, and thats what I do. :)

I was told to use filtered or spring water. I use filtered and let it get close to room temp before adding to the snakes bowl.

P.S. Don't forget to clean that bowl out about once a week to prevent bacteria and icky stuff!

ossbasha is right keep your water to the cool side.moving it to the warmer side while your snake is in shed can raise the humidity and solve any difficult shedding problems.hope this answers your question.

I use purified water because our water from the tap is terrible. Not fit for man or beast, and I clean my water bowls every day by rinsing and refilling. Every week or so I wash them with detergent, hot water, and rinse well. My bowls would be disgusting and my snakes ill from bacteria if I changed it once a week.

I Brita mine both for me & for my snake. I pour his into a water bottle so it can reach room temp. before I give it to him.

Leia and Meg....

Leia - I do the same exact thing.

Meg - Oooo...maybe I should be cleaning more often. I haven't had any problems, but once a week I do the hot water and mild detergent thing.

I used to clean out the water every couple of days, but my aztec regurged and the breeder told me it's better to clean out the water everyday. If it's slippery to the touch inside, you already have bacteria, and they are pretty suseptible to stomach bacterial infections. He told me that's what happened to one of his, so now he cleans the water everyday. It doesn't take too much time to rinse it well and change the water. And better safe than sorry with my kids!

Water purifiers is a good idea if your not sure, or water that you buy at the store. I've read that tap water isn't the best for a snake because it has flourine in it. Is this true?
I use some tap and share some of my bottled water when I drink it, but I'm thinking about water purifiers myself.

Based on the water treatment used in your area it can or can not be used for the snakes. There was a thread here a while ago about chloramine T in the water. I drink the water from the tap where I live now. And I also give it to my snakes. A Brita is a good idea. Whether you place it on the cool or hot side depends on your viv and your bowl. A large flat bowl will increase the humidity in the tank quite well if it is desired. A small bowl will not really effect the humidity that much.
I definetly suggest to change the water daily or every two days.

Depends intirely on where you life. In France tap water isn't suitable for drinking due to certain chemicals in it. You'll need to boil it first. When i lived in Utrecht, the water from the tap was delicious. Now i life in Amersfoort and i brush my teeth in that water in fear of my life. I've switched to bottled. It's cheap and i keep it at room temperature, so it won't be to hot of cold for my snakie. I did it for the first time yesterday and perhaps it's just coincedende but she dived right into it (And not around blue phase).
