Brand new corn snake owner

Hey guys, names dan, so i few weeks ago i decided on getting a snake, and since i keep fish i know about proper reaserch and what not, i read up on them, so yesterday i set up a nice home, 10 gallon tannk, screen top locked with a heat lamp, some wood, a water bowl, a rock hut, substrate recomended by reptile store, anyways i bought a corn snake today hes really small, names dexter (if anyone cares), anyways i just had a few questions abou tmy first few days with him. 1. am i missing anything 2. should i know anything thats not basicly covered in beginer books (for some of the seasoned keepers here) and 3rd is unrelated but i can really tell from the pictures but about how big does the diameter of a corn snake get? ill post a pic soon, thank you

PS. im a member of a fish forum and us fish keppers have a habbit of ranting on the newbies for mistakes, so if u guys could take it easy im new.

Sounds like you've got it basically covered. If I were you I'd ditch the heat lamp for a UTH (Under-Tank heater)

How big is your snake? And do you know what the substrate you're using is called?

The diamater of the snake depends a lot on the snake itself. I couldn't give you a prediction on that.

:-offtopic Is the fish forum you go to fishheads? My father goes there a lot. He sells acrylic aquarium supplies.

Why are there two threads of the same question?

As for your setup, a few more hides would be better. I also second using a UTH.

Heating questions

OK so right now i have the heat lamp, its on from when i wake up to when i go to sleep, thw house is at 75 i think so it dosnt get cold at night, if i have teh uth do i leave it on 24 7 , and do i keep a lighting source maybe an old fish light or somthing

Yes, leave the UTH on all the time, but be sure and get some sort of regulator--a rheostat or thermostat or something--, and a digital thermometer with a probe. Don't try to guess at your temperatures.

I use flourescent aquarium lights on my tanks that have lights. The others do fine with just the ambient room light.
