Breeding Pair Wanted For Science Classroom

Corns are Class 2 animals whatever that means in TN. As I understand it you can have as many as you want but if you want to breed them and sell the offspring or even sell the ones you have you need a $250/year permit morphed or not.

In KY if I have more than 5 non morphed corns I need a permit either $75/3 years or one that costs $150 every year If I want to breed and sell the offspring. I was under the impression at first you needed a permit just to have a Class 2 pet but Dwight explained the difference to me.

My guess is the TWRA guy did not suspect you of selling Class 2 animals so no violation. There used to be a member here (Terri Manning CornCrazy) that lived in Nashville that could have told you everything about it but when the permit price went up she got out.

Well I will concede that the letter of the law is what you say, and when advising someone such as the OP it is best to err on the side of caution. I think the true variable is the specific person you talk to. After asking some other corn breeders locally I've been informed that, generally, if your corns are CB they really don't care. Like, they care even less than they do about the turtle law, which they publicize but rarely enforce. But all it would take is one associate that DOES care to screw you over.

From what I hear Walter Cook is a tyrant with the laws. I emailed him the question and will post his reply if I get one because in the end it is his word that TWRA officers take as the law. As long as you are not selling at shows or making a big deal online to sell them you can probably skate under the radar, a teacher maybe not so much.

I do enough sales to offset my permit price so the piece of mind is worth it for me.
