Breeding snows

My snows are not anywhere near ready for breeding. If i do breed the in the furture what are the common results? What others have you breed to snows and what were the results.

Well lets see if you breed a snow to a snow you will get snows.
If you breed an anery A to a snow you would get all anery's double het for snow.If you breed an amel to a snow you would get all amels double het for snow.Breed anything else to a snow and you would get all normals het for anery, amel, and what ever you breed it with.Ex. Snow x Lavander would get you all normals het for anery,amel,and lavander. I hope this did not confuse you.

I just read the above post, and I disagree. Unless there is something else going on with my snakes. Last March I bred my female snow to my amel Okeetee male. The result: 21 eggs, 11 amels (het for snow), and 10 snows. So explain this?

That's easy to explain. Your amel okeetee was het for anery. That is the only way you could get snows from that pairing.
Amel x Snow = amels dh for snow
Anery x Snow = anerys dh for snow
Amel het for anery x Snow = amels and snows.
The reason for this is cause a Snow has two recessive genes. one is anery the other is amel.

I understand all that. But if you purchased these snakes from a reputable breeder do you think it would be courteous to tell the buyer exactly what they were purchasing?

Perfect world of course it would be preferable to have the breeder know and tell you exactly whats going on with each snakes genes. But frankly when you are talking big breeders who may have 1000 hatchlings a season, sometimes things can happen.....not to mention with the more common morphs, i.e. anery, snow, amel, normals, etc hidden genes for other common things (anery amel etc) appear often, most people feel thats a bonus!

Yes I wouldthink a reputable dealer would tell you that. Assuming that they know.Remember that some breeders do not know what they have. It is also possible that your amel came from a possible het anery clutch and the breeder figured it didn't matter cause it was possible. Maybe they did it so you would have a surprise on your hands. By the way, who did you get your amel from?

Snows, anerys and amels

The bonus part is right. They are beautiful snakes. Wish I had a digital camera to show you. I kept two of the hatchlings: a snow and an amel (phenotype?). The amel okeetee is so bright orange you need shades just to look at it. So, breeding her back to her father would produce 66% amels (het for snow)? and 33% snow? Just curious?

If her father is a snow the offspring would still be 50/50 amel and snow. I believe.

An amel or anery (such as the result of amel het anery X snow) is not "double het for snow" because it is homozygous for the trait it is expressing. It is only het for the one trait it is not expressing, not "double het."
