Brumation

Sabbas

Amateur Snake Herder
Hello all, I'm a new corn lover and have been visiting the forums daily picking up all sorts of great information. I do have a remaining questiong however. Is brumation essential even in young corns? I currently have 2 corns (0.1 snow and 1.0 amel both 2004) I understand the risks of bumation with non healthy snakes and such but should I skip bumation this year and start them into it in the next even though these are healthy and growing well? When do you more advanced corn owners first allow your corns to brumate?

Any advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you are thinking of breeding your corns, then brumation is not necessary. Since you have '04 hatchlings, you don't even have to think about it yet for another couple of years. And brumation isn't necessary for breeding either. I brumate my breeders (most of them anyway) and have found my breeding results a little bit more successful when I brumate versus when I don't. I also like the few months break of not having to feed the adults.

I put my adult female and male corns in brumation without breeding them afterwards. It gave them and me an opportunity to rest undisturbed.

Initially I was going to breed them, but after bringing them out of brumation I did not feel comfortable with their weights so I decided to keep them apart until next year!!
