Bug Help Needed!!

Bug22baby

Snakes and more Snakes
Ok so I had my ball python out (yes I know this is a CORN site) , but as I was doing a routine handling a small black bug like flea size was crawling along his back. I wiped it off immediatly and checked him over and saw nothing else. He just shed this week and no problems. He had a live mouse on August 11, which he instantly ate. I have emptied, cleaned and replaced all his substrate with paper toweling. I will begin to check my other 10 snakes after posting this question. What should I do to make sure that a) this is or is not a mite? b) if it IS Mites how do I treat him? c) How do I make sure this does not spread to my 10 corn snakes who are in the same room and some in the same rack. Please Respond with the quickest method to make sure my collection is safe I have never been in contact with mites to know what they in fact look like. And wanna make sure the health of my animals is safe!

P.S. Some Quick faqs about the snake: He has a Sterelite Tub, aspen substrate (now paper towel), and 1 Kleenex Box (now removed) and 1 large Plastic waterdish which he hides under (Only thing in his the tub now). He is 4.5 Months old CB and typically eats Frozen thawed.

UPDATE: Checked all corns within the same rack as Ball Python and have found nothing. All is looking good for them. Any Suggestions THANKS

Well if you have only seen ONE of these bugs and NO others since....maybe it was just a random bug :shrugs: I mean, it didnt necessarily have to be a parasitic bug...

Thats my thought, now if you find more, then I might start being concerned.

Look in the longitudinal groove between scales under the chin, and around the eyes. Also check the water bowl for dead mites and check your hands after handling. If you don't see any in those places after a week or two, I doubt you have mites. But keep checking for awhile anyway.

Thanks I will keep a close eye on all my snakes, makeing sure to check around the eyes and mouth. In the mean time I plan to make sure everything is well sanatized. I really HOPE this was just a random bug and NOT a mite.

Thanks!
