Building a new cage

I just finished building a 3'wide x18"high x18"deep cage using 3/4"plywood for my little Corn (Neo)... a 5 month old Reverse Okeetee (awesome little guy). The front is framed plexiglass as the door. Each end has a 12"x7" screened opening for ventilation so otherwise the enclosure is wood. I am considering a couple of different heating methods but would like to get your ideas, especially if you have built or bought something similar. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks for your help.

i don't know alot bout heating just be carefull bout the wood catchng on fire.

oh yea i live in Munice nice to see another person from IN in here

hi

We built a rack type cage out of the same plywood.

You can use any type of heating really as for corns you only need 82-85 or so for the "hot" side. So when using anything for heat, you can use a thermastat and the wood shouldn't burn let alone catch on fire unless something is faulty. :) I use heatmats, or heat tape which both work well on wood.

But you'll want to coat the entire thing in several coats of polyurethain (sp) and let that completly 100% dry and cure and make sure all of the paint smell is totally gone. This will stop the wood from outgassing as much and also seal the wood so no moisture or snake crap gets into it. You might also want to pick up a 3 dollar tube of aquarium sealant to seal all around the edges. *LOL* I am really rambling here but just sharing what we found to be a help to know before hand. :) You might already have done these things even so if you did sorry, just thought I'd throw those tips out there :)
