Building my own viv

Hi, all.

I am getting a baby corn in Mid-December and wanted to build a custom viv. I am thinking of having it around 30 Gallons. Is that too big for a baby corn? Will it feel unsecure in such a big viv? How do I heat the viv? Is it neccesary to have a heat mat or can I just have an overhead heater? If so how do I install the heatmat... I cant have it under the plywood... do I put it inside the viv and put glass or something over it ?
What is the ideal humidity % for a baby corn?
I have been reading alot on the web about corns and most people suggest not to feed inside the viv, but rather feed in a different closure, such as a plastic container. Do I have to have a comlete other set of heating to heat that closure? Is it OK to pick the snake up just after he has swallowed his food and put it straight into his viv?

Well thats it for the questioning blasting :flames:

Hope someone in this great forum has some answers for the newbie

some would say that 30 gallons is too large for a baby corn, but i personally do not think it would mind as long as it had good hiding spots. technically you could have a 10 gallon, but it is nice to have a cage that it can live in forever.

some people use only UTH or only overhead and some use both. I suggest UTH, but i wouldn't suggest putting it in the viv.

For the other container you do not need heating or water. Its just a place to chill for 15 minutes while it downs its prey. Some corns are excited after feeding so you could just dump him in his cage when hes done.

I keep my corns between 60% and 65% usually but a search should shed some light on this for you :)

Well well well

Thats a lot of questions. Let me see: 30Gallons is not too big if there are enough hiding spots available, e.g. stones, caves, plants etc.
heatmat are heat lamp is actually entirly up to you. I prefer heatcables as i can put them underground and don't have to see them inside the viv (purly optical reasons).
The humidity is rightly said by surfrkidTS 60-65%. For feeding I use a normal washing up bowl, which I normally cover with a lid. My snakes don't like being watched when eating. As you only leave them in for a couple of minutes anyway there need to be nothing extra in the box.
