Corn and Bp Lover
Hey all

I have a 2ft corn in a 3ft viv. The substrait is paper towels and I have 3 layers of it over the heat mat which is on the inside of the tank. It i 90F in the hot end and 80F in the cool end.
The last week or two my corn has been burrowing under the paper towes and been lying on the bottom one which is very close to the heat mat and im worred that he/she might die.

What can I do???

Whats making my corn do this??? (p.s. I ave planty of hides)

Thanks

Alex

As long as he has a cool and warm side I think the snake would be fine. He probably just likes the warmth.:)

90 sounds a little high though. I like to keep my warm side at more like 83º and cool side at mid 70's
I would also not suggest having the heat pad inside the tank in case your snake poops on it. Put it under the tank- it will probably lower the temp a little. If not, keep the pad under the tank and prop it up half an inch or so.

Well ALL my colubrids (corns too of course) have a hot spot of 90 degrees, they use it often. Mind you, I have longer tanks which allow a larger gradient of heat. One end is kept at 90, but slowly it goes down the entire 36 inches and ends up around 75. depending on wamr day or not, and inside temp too of course sometimes.

Anyways your cool side is not cool enough in relation to those higher hot spots. What I would do is get some bottle caps, or furniture pads. They are little round things that sit on the feet of chairs to prevent scratching. Anways then raise your tank up above the heat pad like one half inch, or a full inch. It will allow more air, and cool things off a bit.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend removing the heating pad ASAP. Those pads are meant for under the tank and are safest for your snake that way.

Where did you measure the temperature from, because if you stuck the temp thing to the glass on the side it's measure the temp of the glass not the temp of the air over the heating pad which can be in the 100's if you're not careful.

Trust me, those things work and work well if properly placed under a tank. Even if you have to do a little proping with a towel.

Excessive or unusually burrowing out of no where could also mean a shed is coming soon.

Be careful, good luck
