Butt-Muncher

Hock3yMonk3y

I like corn snakes...
Hi guys, I just fed my snake and she ate the pinky butt first. Is this okay, I read that they should eat head first.

Mine still eats it from the rear - he doesn't seem to have any problems digesting it, it's just more of a challenge to get it in.

My snow corn Kate ate every single one of her pinkies butt first and about half of her fuzzies that way too. Now that we have moved on to hoppers we seem to be better about eating face first the way nature intended it.

My corn eats his first pinky head first, and his second butt first every time. It's so funny - he'll even bite closer to the head on the second one, but will make sure to move down and eat it butt first. I don't know what it is. Here's a pic for your enjoyment. :)

on his next feeding day, I definitely will! :) I just fed him about 10 minutes ago, and didn't have time to take pics. But keep your eye out next Friday or Saturday, and i'll post 'em up. :)

I see the smile!!! Sadly I won't ever get good shots like that of my snake eating, I feed him in the petco box that I got and I can't see him in there

aww...:( I feed mine in the viv. I handle him on a regular basis just in case he decides my hand looks like food. He hasn't had a problem with it yet. I got to see him in an agressive position when I tried putting his hides in too quickly after he finished eating. He looked like he was about to strike, but didn't. That's the only close call i've had since getting him. :) I don't know what i'm rambling about! lol - it's late and i'm tired I guess. :shrugs:

Wow great pictures! Speaking of eating two pinkies, would you give the second at the same time as the first pinkie? Or wait a few days to give the second?

Well I waited a few hours, I fed my corn one before I left for work and I fed him another when I got back, he happily ate it. Don't know if its recommended to do that though. I only did it cause my pinkies are really small

what I do is feed them both in the same feeding session. I will either hold them in tongs, or just put them on the paper towel in the viv. He'll eat the first one, then start roaming around the viv, find the second one, and eat it.
IMO, it's better to feed them at the same time (of course, that's if the snake is able to handle eating two pinks at the same time) than to space it out a couple of days. it's body would be pretty much constantly digesting (as opposed to feeding every 6 - 7 days), and on top of that, you'd never get to hold it!

that should be if - my close tag didn't work for some reason. :)

How do you know if your snake can handle it? And you are right about never getting to hold your snake I never thought of it like that.

A couple of shots of VooDoo having dinner. She was a butt muncher a long as I fed her the Fuzzies. She's eating small mice now, and takes those head first. These shots were taken when she was blue. . . . .She's shed now and looking very much brighter.

Basically by following the Munson Plan. I like to know what weight my snake should be before eating a certain sized meal. It also helps to know your snake and it's habits when it comes to eating, defecating, and shedding. I've kept meticulous records on my snake since getting him, and I keep the records in duplicates (both on iHerp and in a notebook.) - I figure if I lose one, i'll still have the other one. :)
I should note about the Munson Plan - you don't have to follow it to a T. It's okay to loosely base your snake's feedings on the Munson Plan, but don't fret if you're a little off on it. Mostly just pay attention to whether or not your snake still has a bump within 24 hours of eating, and the girth of the snake in relation to the prey item.
