So, I've been looking around online for some UTHs, particularly for Exo-Terra Rainforest Heat Wave, I have one currently on my leopard geckos, and have had great luck with it so far. Would this be good for a corn snake, ball python and nelsons milk?

I was also looking at a ZooMed ReptiTemp 500R Model: RT-500R..Is this any good, and is it worth it? I have never used a thermostat before, so I'm not sure how necessary it is.. (I'm short on funds, fyi.. :uhoh: )

I have found a good, cheap site, I've been looking at and have basketed...Heat Wave Rainforest - large (x1) Heat Wave Rainforest - medium (x2) ReptiTemp 500R (x1) Exo-Terra Digital Thermometer w/Probe (x1) for 89$ shipped....

Does anyone know any better products? or would this be good? (Keep in mind I only have $100 dollars and that includes shipping and handling.)

Thanks for any input. :)

For that cost, it looks to me that it's a pretty good deal. I'm sure better can be found somewhere, but at some point the returns start to diminish.

Repti-therm 500R... some will tell you it's junk. I'm not one of them. Sure, there are better thermostats. But, it's not bad for the price. It's an on/off unit, so it won't hold an exact temperature, rather a range, so it'll need some fiddling to set up. You'll also want to keep an eye on it, but you'd keep an eye on any unit you get. In my opinion, the 500R is better than using a rheostat, which is FAR better than an unregulated UTH.

sounds like a good price if you want pm me ill tell you where i bought my stuff, got a good deal, i use the 500R and my temps range from 80-83. keep in mind that you are only plug in two uth to it, something to think about since you are buying 3 of them.

Just as a warning, our UTH hit 120 degrees before I unplugged it when we were testing stuff before we got our snake. So they can get hot enough to burn, and fast. We are using the ReptiTemp 500R with it now and our temps range from about 83 to 88 on the hot end.

I also have the 500R thermostat and have no complaints about it at all..sure it does take a little fiddling with it in the beginning but now my temps are always around 80-83..which is perfect..:0) And it sounds like you got a good price..One site I know sells stuff for great prices is Reptilesupply.com...so check them out if ya ever want to...If in the end the prices you got were cheaper then go with the one you choose..I use the Zoo med heat mat..but of course that's just preference when it comes to matts..lol...:crazy02:

That is actually where I was looking at to buy them from, reptilesupplies. :p

Okay, two more ?s and I'm done. :)

I was looking at the ZooMed Repti Therm U.T.H, does anyone know how good this is? I used it about 3 years ago, and didn't like to one I had, I have it plugged in now, on an empty tank to see how hot it gets, I never really liked it, as far as I remember, but its a lot cheaper than the one I am buying, and if I get 3 of these vs. 3 of the Exo Terra Heat Wave, I can afford to buy 3 of the Repti Temp Rheostat (my tanks are on opposite sides of the room from each other, unfortunately I can't get just 2 as it wouldn't reach from one to the other.)

And are the Repti Temp Rheostats any good? or would the 500R thermostat work better with uth's or no? What is the difference between a Rheostat and a Thermostat?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to do this right, and correct all the heating issues. Thanks a lot. :)

Well the good majority that uses UTHs here uses Zoomed repti therms. I myself have them for both of my corns, my king snake, my leopard gecko and my boyfriend's leopard gecko. I have nothing but good praises for zoomed UTHs. But the last time I left one unregulated for 10 minutes it went from 85 to 95, not a chance I was willing to take.

I have not heard as good reviews about the repti temp rheostat though as I have the thermostat.
At that point I would probally just build your own if you're strapped for cash, I'm using a home made rheostat using directions I got here for one leopard gecko set up and one corn snake tank. The only thing more difficult with rheostats is that you have to mess with them more than thermostats because if the room temp changes then so will the temp in your cage, cause rheostats put out a constant source of heat, where as thermostats turn it on and off at certain temps.

Edit: Also try Petmountain.com I started off with reptilesupply.com but I've been able to get stuff for a few bucks cheaper at the other place, and when you're trying to save money it helps.

Thanks a lot! :) I think I'm going to stick to buying the zoo med repti therm and some digital thermometers.

I found a guide on here to building a rheostat, so I think I'll do that, it doesn't seem hard at all, and cheap too.

Yeah $7/rheostat is a lot more budget friendly than any thing you're going to find made by an actual supply company.
