can a corn have a bigger viv than it needs?

I put my corn (now sub- adult) into a 36"X12" cage. the reason for this is because the old one was an aquariujm type thing with a top opening lid. i didn't like this as it was harder to get him out and to cleaan. Corns seem more defensive from the top. I've got a new snakes since then (about 28") does it matter or would it kind of scare him if I put him in a bigger cage than he needed.
(does anyone know of any good mail order reptile sites in the UK?)

Personally I dont see why it should scare them. They live in open spaces in the wild. Just make sure you have plenty of hides in the viv. My snakes are both in a 5ft long by 4ft high viv and they love exploring in it. Its much more interesting to watch them and probably more interesting for them too!

i keep my corn in a 4ft x 1ft and 18inches high and he is only about 30inches long and ive had no problems with him he has two hides. there a loads of good sites in the uk go to reptiles uk and try ther links.

Hey ERJ.
I agree with Rachel and Reaper, The more space the happier the snake would be just make sure that it has enough hide boxes.

The reason why corns are defensive from top is, in nature birds like to have corns for dinner. And birds attack from the top. The snakes are less agressive with the door in the front. Just make your viv as big possible.

alternative

if you dont feel like buying alot of hides what i have found to be sucessful is aspen chips. they burrow underneath. even if you have astroturf as a substrate, just throw a couple of piles of aspen chips in.
