Not ALL snakes like to be put in water. Some have said that their snakes like to swim. I have not found that to be true with any of mine :D Most of mine don't even go for a soak in their water dishes.

Hey all

I normal take my corn for a swim twice a week in warmish water for about 5-10min, but sometime they poop in the water. But I thinks its good for te snakes skin and scales and I think my corn likes it.

If you don't fancy seeing your own corn swim - try visiting the new "Kingdoms of the Night" exhibit at Omaha Zoo Nebraska - which has a wonderful snake exhibit - corns, water snakes, and rat snakes, surrounded by water, and there were lots swimming there.

i think the swimming thing is a personal preference and also a size thing to some extent. two of my 2 yr snakes love to swim, but two others hate water (that is in larger than water bowl amounts.) my adult snakes seem less comfortable about it, although one seems okay with it while one of them absolutely FREAKS OUT! but most seem to like it or not have an opinion at all...

The little guys probably don't like swimming because in the wild they would be an easy target for a large fish or turtle.:)

All 3 my snakes like the water, their water bowls are just deep enough to submerge in and they'll sit in there for quite a while with their heads just bobbing slightly!

I read somewhere that if your corn spends time soaking in the water dish then there could be a health issue. Is this true? Also, I have never seen my snakes in their water dishes for any length of time (although that doesn't mean they dont do it while I'm asleep) but all of them seem happy enough to have 'baths' every so often.

My less than month old hates water, will not even go in her water dish. But my creamsicle who is 6 years old, absolutely loves to sit in her water bowl for hours. I checked the temps in the cage thinking maybe its too hot, but alls fine there, I guess some snakes do and others dont. Could also be an age thing, as they get older and bigger, they're not as scared?
