Hi,

I just became a member, and have been researching the forums but didnt find information about using dividers. Im sorry if i missed the thread if there is one, theres a lot of information here and i havent had the chance to read it ALL.

I have a large tank that was used to house aquatic turtles, the tank is big enough for me to fit in :p im 5'3. I was wondering if i can make plexy glass dividers for the tank and place them inside to separate the snakes?
Would doing this stress the snakes out by being so close to one another but not being able to do anything about it? I know some animals wil repeatedly smash their heads against the glass trying to get to the animal in the next tank.. prolly to try to kill it :(. Is this the same with Cornsnakes?

Another question, I've read about quarantines.. how long is neccesary? Can I avoid the quantine by just making a vet appt? And is the qurantine needed if i am goin to divide the tank?

Thanks,
karolyn :crazy02:

There have been many threads about this. Yes, you can devide it. Make certain that the divider goes all the way to the lid with no space at the top or they will climb over. You can use aquarium epoxy. I think if you use the search and put in dividing tanks or splitting tanks you'll find it. I haven't heard of any cornsnakes doing the head ramming thing. They aren't particularly aggressive except males at breeding time. You can always use shelf paper that self sticks to line the divider next to them so they can't see. It is recommended that you quarantine for at least 3 months. Even a vet visit doesn't guarantee that they don't come up with something a month down the road, although it would go a long way to helping. If I got all the animals from the same place, they are quaratined together. You wouldn't need to seperate them from each other if they all came from the same source. Seperate housing should suffice. If each snake is from a different source (especially a pet shop) you will need to completely seperate them from each other. I use another room if possible, or at least the other end of a room with the quarantined animal in a rubbermaid container on paper and seperate feeding tongs etc. if they use them.
