Can they breed now?

Hi all! Tonight I was swimming my snakes and we put our 4' male Anery in the tub with our 4' female Snow just to see them stretch out together and the beautiful contrast of the black and white. Well after a few minutes they started wrapping around each other like two pieces of rope twisted together. Is this what they do when they breed? Before this they seemed to be paying no attention to one another. I seperated them immediately because if this was breeding behavior I am NOT ready for babies! Can they or do they breed at this time of the year? I thought that they only were interested in the spring?!? I haven't read a lot about breeding yet since I'm not planning to do that for awhile. Any opinions?!!

Thanks
Colleen

PS They were only like that for less than a minute, could they breed that fast? I just want to know if I should be watching her or anything.

Well, I'm not that experienced with breeding corns but that sounds like breeding behavior to me.

I doubt that she could get gravid from only a few seconds of that behavior but I don't know for sure. It wouldn't be a bad idea to just keep in mind what happened so that if she does get fat you'll understand why though because anything can happen!

I don't think that breeding occured that fast....
and besides if breeding did occur you can actually see the male's hemipense into the females.....so I would say breeding of your pair is not a possiblity...

The reason why they were together was because they were afriad in the water so they need to 'hold' on something and basically that the other snake.....so that was why they held together.....

Good Luck and Happy Herping!

Well after I read thru the breeding section of the Corn Manual I agree that it looked like breeding behavior but I don't think anything happened! Thank Goodness! It was the male who really did it. Oh well I'll chalk that up to a brain fart! I can't believe I didn't even think about that when I put her in with him. They both love to swim so I just thought they would look pretty together in a pic.
Simon actually if it had been any of the others I might have thought that to. But these two really love swimming. When I go to take them out they always glide right back out of my hands like"please Mom 5 more minutes?" and they also have an "island" in the tub if they want to get out of the water.

My sons says they were hugging!:D I guess we'll have to "talk" before breeding season!

Thanks all

Colleen

LOL...
maybe they just wanted a swim together...since they both loved swimming...

yes...I would think that you need to talk to your son before breeding....or else he's going to think of something happening when breeding does acutally occur....LOL...
