I'm Me, Deal With It
I have 2 adult rats that i breed for feeders. this last litter i let the female raise a male and female so they can become breeders in the future. Their eyes are beginning to open, and I was wondering how to set up their water for when they are ready to start "experimenting". also, what is the best food to have accessable to them so they can start nibbling when they are ready to wean??
 
I'm only a beginner too but i'm feeding my young natal rats finely crushed dog biscuits, broccoli & millet... hope this helps...
 
Well i have my water bottle down low & as their quite inquisitive mine seem to have found it as the level gets lower. (the babies are now in a cage of their own...)
 
As long as the water bottle tip is down to about 2 inches above the bottom of the cage, they should be able to stand up and drink at it. And they will just start nibbling on whatever food the parents are eating. I've never had to give them any kind of 'rat baby food'. They have sharp enough teeth to just start eating lab blocks, or seed mix.
 
I have raised rats in the past as pets (not snake food), and yes, they do find the water bottle on their own when they start wandering around. However, be sure that the bottle tip is not really close to the bedding, as the bedding will wick the water and will become wet.
